Despite being a perfect genre for showing blood and gore, there are not many undead films (bar zombies, bar infected) that dare to go one step further, at least the level of distribution that has reached ‘The Sadness’. A year after the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, in Taiwan they dared to film what is surely the most extreme film of this very popular subgenre that we have seen in the last five years. The trailer pointed things out… and it certainly lives up to expectations.
What is ‘The Sadness’ about?
The young protagonist couple says goodbye in the morning when she begins another day of work. Just at that moment, a virus that has been threatening the population for weeks begins to mutate, turning those infected into bloodthirsty psychopaths with no remorse… or do they really have any? From this moment on, and practically without pause, we “enjoy” a delirious succession of scenes where blood, gore and sex -not very explicit, but completely depraved- roam freely on our television screen.

When we think that the first violent scene, in a restaurant, cannot go any further, we enter the subway car to suffer with the protagonist one of the bloodiest scenes in recent years. Countless liters bathe the ceiling, the floor and the windows in an orgy of death that, despite everything, is only the beginning.
The couple will try by all means to reunite at the end of the film, and without revealing whether they finally succeed or not, we want to make it clear that it matters very little. After all, we are here to see extreme violence, and there is no doubt that there is, and a lot of it.. You won’t remember it for your entire life, but maybe it’s the infected movie you didn’t know you needed.
