Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Rich citizens North Korea Oh Hye Son tells how unhappy it is to live in North Korea despite being full of wealth and privileges.
Oh is a citizen born into an elite North Korean family who still has ties to the dynasty Kim Jong Un. He is a descendant of generals who fought alongside former North Korean leader Kim Il Sung.
However, he felt that the privileges he had in the country of his birth could not give him the freedom he wanted. Oh feels he has “lived in fear of power” all this time.
“I never want to go back to North Korea and question why North Koreans have to live such a difficult life,” he said in an interview in Seoul, where he now lives.
“No one except Kim is (really) privileged… I realized that there was no future for [anak-anak saya] in North Korea,” he said.
Oh said his eldest son, Thae Ju Hyok, has a number of health problems, one of which is nephrotic syndrome, a condition related to the kidneys and can cause fatal problems if left untreated.
According to Oh, it will be difficult for their children to receive treatment if they remain alive in North Korea. He revealed that the health system in North Korea was bad, even one of the worst in the world because many doctors had to be bribed first to be able to treat patients.
In addition, even crucial medicines are incomplete in this isolated country.
Oh said he was very happy when he and his family had lived in London in 2004. London is a city that has met the requirements for national health services.
Therefore, the son can get free treatment at one of the best medical facilities in this famous British city.
Her children can also go to British schools comfortably and settle down well.
“The children grow up very well in England, in a society that respects them,” he said.
