The IOC proposal caused a huge storm. Opposition has already been expressed by Ukrainian politicians who have announced that if these athletes are allowed to compete, they will boycott the event. The idea of the International Olympic Committee was also disliked in other countries, including in Poland, Great Britain and Norway. Countries are trying to put pressure on the IOC so that the Games in Paris will be held without Russians and Belarusians.
The Minister of Sport spoke on the matter Kamil Bortniczuk. – Despite all the diplomatic efforts of Russian diplomacy aimed at persuading representatives of individual countries to return Russian athletes, so far there is almost unanimity in the civilized world that there can be no consent to such a move – said the politician in an interview with the portal Polskiradio24.pl . Now the Russian media has referred to this statement.
The absurdity of the Russian media
The Russian portal sport-express.ru published an article referring to the confusion surrounding the idea of the IOC. Its author, Oleg Shamonayev, states that Poland can expect serious consequences of its actions in this matter. “The IOC should point out that in the case of the ministers of sport of Poland and the Baltic states, there is an attempt to directly interfere in the activities of sports organizations, which is strictly prohibited by the Olympic Charter and has led to the disqualification of various teams at the Games in the past,” writes the journalist.
In the further part of his argument, Shamonaev even crosses the borders of the absurd. “In the current situation, the national teams of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia should go to Paris without the flag, not Russians” – writes the Russian journalist. However, he quickly concludes that this is unlikely.
