The Russian rocket attack destroyed a railway bridge in the Odessa region in the southwest of the country, which leads over the Dniester estuary to the Black Sea. The destruction of the bridge would mean that the tip of Ukrainian territory bordering Romania and Moldova would be cut off from the rest of the country. From the Ukrainian hinterland, it could only be reached by road via Moldova.
