On the night of December 3, Moscow time, the UFC Fight Night 233 tournament will take place in Austin, America, the main event of which will be a fight between two lightweights – Beneil Dariush from the USA and Arman Tsarukyan. Bookmakers consider the Russian fighter to be the favorite. By the way, he has already defeated the Americans twice: in one case it came to a judge’s decision, in the second it ended in a technical knockout.

The Akhalkalaki man mercilessly destroyed his opponent. Even broken ribs did not hinder the victory.

“We’ll finish in the first round”

Russian Arman Tsarukyan made his UFC debut in 2019 at a tournament in St. Petersburg. It didn’t turn out very well – the fighter lost a decision to the organization’s future lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. After this failure, the Akhalkalaki resident went on a streak of three victories and dreamed of meeting in the octagon with rating opponent Dan Hooker. However, it was not possible to cross paths with the New Zealander – Christos Giagos from the USA, known to the public under the nickname Spartan, was proposed as the next opponent.

The American of Greek origin was on a streak of two victories, but the 31-year-old fighter also had plenty of defeats. Eight times Giagos left the cage as a loser, and for some time he even had to leave the UFC. But after a short run in the ACB, Spartan returned to Dana White’s organization.

In terms of experience, Christos could give his younger opponent a head start. Yes, he lost a lot, but to whom! People who at different times were contenders for championship belts, and even became champions. In particular, Christophe was beaten by Gilbert Burns, Josh Emett and Charles Oliveira. Tsarukyan understood this, and therefore appreciated the American’s capabilities.

— A good and very experienced opponent. Happy with the choice. He, like any UFC fighter, is dangerous, since at this level there are no easy opponents. We are preparing for a serious fight,” Tsarukyan was quoted as saying by the Championship.

However, having heard that Oliveira had strangled Giagos in the second round, Armand declared that he would surpass the Brazilian:

– We’ll finish in the first round, no problem.

Torment of a Spartan

On September 18, 2021, at the UFC Fight Nights tournament, Tsarukyan appeared in the octagon with the firm intention of confidently dealing with his opponent. The goal could have been hindered by bruised ribs, but Arman did not talk about his problems ahead of time.

In a fight between two basic wrestlers, it was logical to expect a stubborn confrontation on the ground, but Tsarukyan and Giagos spent about half a minute preparing an interesting attack on the stand. After the first short exchange, there was another pause, although not so long. The Russian tried to interrupt her with a high kick. The blow hit the block.

After testing his striking skills, Tsarukyan tried to make a transfer, but as a result he himself ended up on the floor under the American. Things didn’t get into big trouble; Arman first sat down at the net, and then was able to get to his feet. The episode, of course, was lost, but after breaking the clinch, the Akhalkalaki man broke into operational space and again began to threaten his counterpart.

The Russian’s next high-kick attempt failed, but Arman effectively knocked the Spartan down with a left side kick. The American flew towards the net, and then, before he knew it, he found himself under a hail of blows. The heavyweight would have been stopped long ago, but the referee allowed Tsarukyan to attack his opponent more than two dozen times.

In the end, the Spartan’s torment ended: Tsarukyan was declared the winner of the spectacular fight and even received a bonus for his performance of the evening. The American looked insane after a hail of missed blows. True, the victory was not easy for Arman himself – a bruise during preparation developed into a fracture of two ribs already in the battle itself. The consequences of the injury, of course, were overcome, and five months later the Russian destroyed his next opponent.
