The Russian tank army will receive T-62 tanks

As noted in the summary, there is a real possibility that even units of the 1st Guards Tank Army, Russia’s main tank formation, will be re-equipped with T-62s to compensate for previous losses. Earlier, the army was supposed to receive the next generation T-14 Armata from 2021.

In recent days, Russian BTR-50 armored personnel carriers, first put into service in 1954, have also been identified in Ukraine for the first time, according to British intelligence.

Since the summer of 2022, approximately 800 T-62 tanks have been removed from storage, and some of them have received upgraded sighting systems that are likely to increase their nighttime performance.

However, both of these vintage vehicle types will have many vulnerabilities on the modern battlefield, including the lack of modern reactive armor.
