The Russian Sputnik V vaccine could also be produced by Hungarians

The head of Hungarian diplomacy met with the Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashek in Budapest on Friday. “The Hungarian government is working to make the vaccine available to Hungarian citizens as soon as possible. The vaccine means solving the current pandemic, “said Szijjártó. “Moscow offered us Hungarian experts to get acquainted with the vaccine right where it is produced next week,” added the head of Hungarian diplomacy.

Szijjártó emphasized that many countries are developing vaccines, but it is not yet clear which vaccine will be available in sufficient quantities. “With regard to Hungarian citizens, it would be irresponsible to abandon some of this possibility,” said the Hungarian Foreign Minister.

Szijjártó emphasized that Budapest would not allow pressure from any lobbyists when buying vaccines. “In Hungary, it will only be possible to use a vaccine that the Hungarian authorities consider safe, effective and authorized to use,” said the head of Hungarian diplomacy.

The first benefits in December

Hungary is expected to import a small amount of Russian vaccine in the country in December. Russia could deliver more vaccine in mid-January next year. In addition to the import of the vaccine, the production of Sputnik V in Hungary could start.

The Sputnik V vaccine was developed by the Nikolai Gamaleji Institute of Epidemiological and Microbiological Research. The preparation was approved by the Russian authorities in August. Two doses are needed for vaccination. Russian authorities initially said Sputnik V was up to 92 percent efficient, later raising the figure to 95 percent. Vaccination of so-called risk groups, including doctors and teachers, is already under way in Russia.
