The Russian Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft has been reported as damaged

MOSCOW (ANTARA) – Astronauts on Thursday (12/15) found damage to the outer casing of the instrument cluster compartment of the Russian Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft docked at the International Space Station (ISS).

The crew reported that the spacecraft’s diagnostic system warning device flashed, indicating a drop in pressure in its cooling system, Russian space company Roscosmos said in a statement.

After a visual inspection confirmed the leak, Roscosmos said the outside spacecraft (EVA) activity, which was to be performed by ISS Russian segment crew members Sergei Prokopyev and Dmitry Petelin, has been cancelled.

Using the camera on the manipulator attached to the Nauka multifunctional laboratory module, Russian cosmonaut Anna Kikina photographed and recorded the external surface conditions of Soyuz MS-22 and sent this data back to Earth for study.

Currently, all systems and spacecraft on the ISS are functioning normally and the crew are safe, Roscosmos said. A decision for further action will be taken after the experts analyze the situation.

The Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft launched from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome on Sept. 21, 2022, carrying Prokopyev, Petelin and a NASA astronaut to the ISS for a six-month stay in orbit.
