The Russian mission to the Moon has failed for the first time.
On the Russian spacecraft “Luna-25”, which is supposed to land in the South Pole region on August 21, an emergency situation occurred during the transition to the pre-landing orbit.
About it informs The Moscow Times with reference to the state corporation “Roskosmos”.
In accordance with the flight program, an impulse was issued to transfer the station to a pre-landing orbit. However, something happened and the interplanetary station could not perform the maneuver with the given parameters.

If “Luna-25” still lands on the Moon, then the device will work on the surface of the Earth’s natural satellite for a year. The main objectives of the mission are to develop soft landing technologies, study the internal structure and explore resources, including water.
The competitor of the Russian Luna-25 station, which is trying to become the first device that will be able to land at the South Pole, is the Indian automatic interplanetary station Chandrayaan-3. Landing of the Indian module with the lunar rover is expected on August 23-24.
Automatic station “Luna-25” is the first lunar mission in the modern history of Russia. The previous station, Luna-24, was launched in 1976 by the Soviet Union.
The carrier rocket “Soyuz-2.1b” with the lunar station “Luna-25” was launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome in the Amur Region on the night of August 11. After 5 days, the device went into orbit around the moon.
Recall that on July 14 this year, the Indian spacecraft Chandrayaan-3 began its journey to the moon.
