/ world today news/ The Russian Ministry of Defense on Monday (July 25) rejected the claims of Bulgarian Defense Minister Nikolay Nenchev that Russian warplanes violated NATO airspace, reported lenta.ru.

Defense Ministry spokesman in Moscow Igor Konashenkov asked how far Nenchev’s imagined zone of responsibility for the alliance’s airspace, which he mentioned in his statement, extended from Bulgaria’s air borders.

The general pointed out that the planes of the Russian military and space forces do indeed carry out scheduled flights over the waters of the Black Sea, but their routes are strictly in accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters.

Konashenkov added that all flights, including in June, were performed with transponders on.

He refuted Nenchev’s claims that the Bulgarian side asked for explanations from Russia about the violations. “Until today, we have not received a single appeal from the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense. Therefore, before speaking in front of the television cameras about the “preventive” response measures used by the Bulgarian military, I would recommend the minister to first check the reports of his subordinates about the real situation”, concluded Konashenkov.
