The Russian Military Knocks Out Ukrainian Leopard 1A5 Tank: Forbes

The Russian military for the first time knocked out a Ukrainian German-made Leopard 1A5 tank, this happened just a few weeks after they began to be used in battle, about this writes Forbes columnist David Ax, citing videowhich has spread on the Internet.

“The Ukrainian army lost a Leopard 1A5 tank for the first time,” the publication says.

The video captures the moment when a tank, which Ax said probably belongs to the 44th mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, comes under Russian artillery fire.

“Once discovered, the unprotected tank became an easy target for what was apparently a series of artillery strikes that were aimed at it with increasing precision,” the observer writes.

Ax notes that the German Leopard 1A5s are the most unprotected tanks in the Ukrainian conflict, and admits that their destruction is inevitable. However, according to him, the first of them was lost too quickly – probably just a few weeks after they began to be used in combat.

As Eks previously reported, the Ukrainian army transferred Leoprad 1A5 tanks transferred from Germany to the front line without the necessary armor. According to him, the vehicles need additional protection due to the fact that 70 mm armor makes them extremely vulnerable.

In mid-November, information appeared on the website of the German government that Berlin had delivered 10 Leopard 1A5 tanks, over two dozen tracked all-terrain vehicles and more than 30 trucks to Ukraine.
