The Russian Federation’s Military Presence in Ukraine: Strategic Goals and Combat Operations

“The Russian Federation has concentrated more than 420,000 military personnel in the temporarily occupied territories and the Crimean peninsula. This is without counting the “Rosgvardiya”, other structures, special units, power structures of the Russian Federation that ensure the occupation power in our territories,” said Skibickis.

According to him, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has not achieved its strategic goal – to completely occupy the territory of Ukraine. The enemy also had other goals, such as the complete occupation of Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

“And right now, the most active Russian combat operations are actually being carried out in two directions – Kupyansk-Liman, and that is Marjinka-Donetsk, in order to fulfill at least some task and fully reach the administrative borders of Luhansk and Donetsk regions,” explained Skibickis.
