The construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline can be completed by September 26, when elections to the Bundestag will be held in Germany.
This was stated by the Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev in an interview with a German newspaper, reports TASS… According to him, weather conditions will have a significant impact on the implementation of the work.
“I really hope that it will be ready even before the elections to the Bundestag. The weather is important for the completion of the project. If it is better, we will move forward faster,” Nechaev said. The diplomat said that the builders will have to complete the laying of almost 100 km of the gas pipeline.
The Russian ambassador also recalled that cooperation between Moscow and Berlin on gas supplies has been going on for over 50 years, it continued “even during the worst times of the Cold War.”
The Nord Stream 2 project is estimated at 9.5 billion euros. It is being implemented by Gazprom in an alliance with European companies Engie, Uniper, OMV, Shell, Wintershall. They pledged to finance Nord Stream 2 in total by 50%, that is, by 950 million euros each. Gazprom will provide the second half of the funds – 4.75 billion euros.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the gas pipeline must be put into operation at the beginning of 2021. However, later the dates were postponed to the end of the year.
