The Russian embassy has clarified gas payments to dispel speculation

In connection with those who appeared in the Bulgarian information space speculation about the payment scheme from Russia’s hostile countries We would like to remind you of the following for the gas supplied by Gazprom Export.

The algorithm assumes the transfer of the amount specified in the contract. At Gazprombank, foreign buyers open special accounts in foreign currency and in rubles. The buyer pays for the gas in foreign currency.

The Kremlin has promised to release gas to Bulgaria and Poland if they pay in rubles

Putin has no plans to contact his counterparts on both sides to discuss supplies

Then Gazprombank sells the currency on the Moscow Stock Exchange and transfers the rubles to the second account of the buyer for further fulfillment of obligations to Gazprom Export. Gas is then delivered.

No third party participation is foreseen in the scheme.

This is stated in a statement by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bulgaria.

We recall that earlier today Moscow clarified that the payment from Poland and Bulgaria under natural gas contracts in the right form will be grounds for resumption of supplies. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Asked whether Russian President Vladimir Putin was planning contacts with counterparts from Bulgaria and Poland to discuss the gas supply situation, Peskov said: “There are no such plans.”

He did not rule out stopping the supply of natural gas to other countries that do not pay for supplies in rubles.

Gazprom suspends supplies to Sofia

As the deadline for paying for natural gas approaches, if some consumers refuse to pay under the new system, then the presidential decree (Vladimir Putin) will, of course, be complied with, the Kremlin spokesman assured.

On March 31, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree requiring some countries to pay for gas delivered after April 1 in rubles only. For this purpose, Gazprombank opens special accounts in rubles and foreign currency type “K” for foreign buyers. The foreign buyer pays for the gas in the contract currency, GPB sells it on the Moscow Stock Exchange and transfers rubles to Gazprom. At this point, the obligation to pay for the natural resource is considered fulfilled.

The suspension of gas supplies to Bulgaria and Poland turned out to be the first since Russian President Vladimir Putin said last month that “unfriendly” foreign buyers would have to pay state-owned Gazprom in rubles instead of other currencies. The EC has decided not to pay for gas in rubles, but said on Friday that this would not be a violation of sanctions.
