(CNN) – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced what it described as the “liberation” of the town of Solidar in eastern Ukraine, hours after the statements of the Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister, who said that the clashes were “intensive” in the town last night.
And the Russian defense added that “imposing control over Solidar makes it possible to cut off the supply routes for the Ukrainian forces in Bakhmut,” while the ministry did not refer to “Wagner’s” allegations that the private military company exclusively liberated the town itself.
It is noteworthy that the capture of the town of Solidar is the first major victory for Russian forces in Ukraine in months.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday that the Russian army had made “tremendous efforts” to regain control of the city of Solidar in eastern Ukraine, but “the main work remains ahead.”
