MOSCOW – Military Russia continues to adapt to changes on the battlefield in its war with Ukraine. That casts doubt on Kiev’s plans to retake territory controlled by Moscow.
“The Russian military demonstrated a capacity to learn from early mistakes,” the report said Wall Street Journal (WSJ)well-known media in the US.
This ability to change tactics could make it difficult for Ukraine to expel Russian forces from its territory. According to the WSJ, Moscow is turning to a strategy to weaken Ukraine and the West.
The US journalists’ conclusions were supported by General James Hecker, commander of US Air Forces in Europe, who said that “we have seen some areas where they [Rusia] adapt, and of course we pay close attention to that.”
The WSJ provided several examples of the Russian army changing its approach in response to Ukrainian tactics and Western-supplied hardware.
Following the advance of Kiev forces in the Kharkov Region last fall, “Moscow spent months preparing a formidable defense ahead of the current Ukrainian counteroffensive,” he said.
Because of the fortifications, Ukrainian troops have advanced slowly in recent months, encountering dense minefields while Russian helicopters, anti-tank missiles and artillery pounded them.
Moscow has deployed various types of drones to target Ukrainian positions in a way that Ukraine has found difficult to respond to.
