The improved Msta can operate in “fire raid” mode and has unique tactical and technical characteristics, including mobility, high rate of fire, and the ability to fire with different types of projectiles, the report says.
The upgraded Msta-S howitzers are equipped with an updated automated guidance and fire control system (ASUNO-M) with improved accuracy characteristics and the ability to display an electronic map of the area. This system ensures the execution of counter-fire maneuvers with autonomous determination of current coordinates and automatic calculation of settings for firing from closed firing positions. Aiming the gun and restoring it after a shot is carried out automatically. Direct fire is possible, including in mountainous areas. In addition, the visibility of Msta-S in the radar, thermal and optical ranges has been reduced.
“As a result of modernization, one of the best self-propelled howitzers in the world, Msta-S, has significantly expanded its capabilities. Now it can hit a target simultaneously with several projectiles along different trajectories. This reduces the time the installation spends in a firing position and allows you to quickly evade a retaliatory strike,” said the Rostec cluster of conventional weapons, ammunition and special chemicals.
The combat vehicles are equipped with modernized loading system mechanisms, due to which the targeted rate of fire when using transportable ammunition reaches 10 rounds per minute. In addition, the new Msta-S received an autonomous power unit with an air conditioning attachment, thanks to which the living conditions of the crew were improved. The driver-mechanic also now has an automated workstation, which provides information about the status of all vehicle systems.
The 2S19M2 self-propelled howitzer is designed to destroy and suppress artillery mortar batteries, tanks, anti-tank, fire and electronic weapons, armored vehicles, control posts, air defense and missile defense systems, destruction of field defensive structures, and prohibition of maneuvers of infantry and tank reserves.
