The Russian army in Ukraine is exposed by corruption

Despite the well-known testimony, Moscow’s official position so far has been that its soldiers are not there, but now corruption in the army itself has helped to expose the lies.

Sanitary control requires a bribe

The court ruled that 1,300 tons of food had been sent from the Rostov region every two weeks to Russian soldiers stationed in militant gangs.

The deputy regional head of a local army food company has been found guilty of bribery. He was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for handing over 990,000 rubles (11,916 euros) from his boss to the head of the State Sanitary-Epidemiological Surveillance Center in the Southern War District.

The accused’s job was to provide food supplies to Russian soldiers in eastern Ukraine. The lieutenant colonel in the southern war zone has demanded 90,000 rubles (1,080 euros) a month from his superior in order not to obstruct the work with supplies.

Food is spoiled by their own

Otherwise, the officer, according to the verdict, “promised that supplies to the Russian troops on duty in the DTR and LTR would be suspended.” These abbreviations refer to the self-proclaimed “republics” of Donetsk and Luhansk by militant gangs.

It is clear from the wording of the judgment that the deliveries took place at least in 2018 and 2019. In the autumn of 2018, food worth 30,000,000 rubles (360,000 euros) was spoiled because the column was delayed by sanitary control. Radio Freedom estimates that delivering 1,300 tonnes of food every two weeks could support around 26,000 men. It cannot be inferred from the judgment that only one company was involved in the supply.

Concerns about large-scale war

In February 2014, Russia occupied the Ukrainian Crimean peninsula. Since April 2014, Moscow-backed and armed militants, saboteurs and soldiers of Russian regular units have occupied large areas in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions of eastern Ukraine.

13,000 people have been killed in the war in eastern Ukraine since the spring of 2014, almost three million have fled, and around three hundred are being held by terrorists, including 30 women. In addition, Russia has concentrated some 100,000 troops on the Ukrainian border, raising concerns about a possible attack in January aimed at occupying the entire country.
