The rupture of a pipeline causes a new spill into the Mar Menor: “No one will want to come here” | Radio Murcia

As a new symbol of the degradation of the Mar Menor – despite the initiatives that are being made to recover it and the tourist advertisements that present it as a clean sea – the water has been dyed brown in the area of the General Air Academy in San Javier to the despair of the bathers.

To the surprise of residents and vacationers who have witnessed the event, this time it was the breakage of a pipe that supplies drinking water to the General Air Academy which has caused a spill through the outlet that flows into the Mar Menor, to the height of Barnuevo beach in Santiago de la Ribera, San Javier.

The City Council of San Javier has wanted to reassure the population by stating that “it is drinking water, whose turbidity is due to the dragging of soil from the park near the point of rupture of the pipe” however, the appearance of this spill with brown water During the morning on the beach it has annoyed the bathers who were in the water, who could not hide their indignation: “they are throwing us out of here and it will be impossible to recover this,” some witnesses of the event have commented.

The Mancomunidad de los Canales del Taibilla states through a statement that the spill has already been stopped and the rupture has been repaired. However, for the time being and as a precautionary measure, the City Council has decided to close the area of the beach affected by the turbidity until it diminishes.
