A new report suggests that Nvidia intends to entirely replace the original model of the RTX 3060 Ti with the newest edition which was launched recently and offers faster video memory.
Nvidia’s Ampere graphics architecture lives on even though the company has begun implementing its latest architecture, Ada Lovelace. In recent times, Nvidia has launched a couple of new versions of existing Ampere graphics cards which have created quite a stir when it comes to the product range. Now it’s rumored that it will soon get even messier for consumers looking for an RTX 3060 Ti.
Nvidia recently launched a new version of the RTX 3060 Ti that comes with 19Gbps GDDR6X memory. That means a memory bandwidth of 608GB/s compared to 448GB/s on the original model. Apart from the video memory change, there are identical specifications in terms of the graphics processor used, the clock frequencies of the graphics processor and the TGP values.
Something that may also raise eyebrows is that the new variant is said to be the same price as the original model. Memory bandwidth then increases by about 35 percent, but the price remains at the same level.
However, this move may come with a couple of big concerns. The reviews and performance tables will need to be updated to clarify exactly which model the RTX 3060 Ti is. It’s also unclear whether the partner manufacturers will update their graphics card packaging to highlight the type of memory used. Should this report turn out to be true, Nvidia will have a somewhat stronger challenger in the mid-range.
