This team is a diesel model. For sure. Yesterday afternoon against Cergy (7-1) as in its three previous outings, in Nice (3-5), Mulhouse (2-4) and Angers (2-5), it still needed time, a good half hour, to really get started. Ari Salo’s men, who replaced Fabrice Lhenry, affected by Covid-19, on the Rouen Hockey Elite bench for the occasion, thus waited for the last 30 minutes to make the difference.
Admittedly, they had quite clearly dominated the debates so far (16 shots to 6 in their favor at the end of the first third), and even quickly opened the scoring thanks to a throw from Lamarche deflected by a defender from Ile-de-France (1-0, 7’55), but Kalter had taken advantage of a numerical superiority to put the two teams back to equality at the very start of the second act (1-1, 21’17).
So that at mid-match, after this equalization, made possible by a small relaxation of the premises at the very end of the first third as much as by their ineffectiveness in power-play (0/4 at the 30th), there is no had nothing done for the Dragons yet. Ultimately, the difference is after half an hour of play and an important stop by Pintaric, their last Slovenian bulwark, against Hordelalay (25th) that the Rouenais made it.

First for Duquenne
In numerical superiority. If their first four power-plays of the evening had been unsuccessful, the fifth was – finally! – fly. Caron, opportunist, recovered the puck after an attempt countered by Deschamps and sent it to the bottom of the Ile-de-France cages (2-1, 35’37). In the process, and still five against four, Lampérier took advantage of a rebound left by Tirone, the goalkeeper of the Jokers, to make the break (3-1, 39’16). Faced with a formation from Cergy which had not played in the championship since last October 2 and which therefore logically lacked rhythm, the RHE rose significantly in the third third.
It only took him a little over four minutes to ensure his success. In the space of 1.53, the Dragons found the net three times. Cantagallo, came to bring the surplus and well found by Bedin (4-1, 42’13), Lamarche, in numerical superiority and magnificently served by Vigners (5-1, 43’42), and Chakiachvili, after a first stop by Tirone (6-1, 44’06), gave the Dragons a five-goal advantage. A comfortable lead that allowed the Rouen staff to offer Valentin Duquenne his first minutes in Ligue Magnus. A little more than eleven minutes during which the usual lining of Matija Pintaric signed four saves and attended the seventh Rouen goal of the evening, signed Vigners after a one-two with Guttig (7-1, 49’45).
A nice achievement that completed the success of the Dragons, the sixth in as many matches of Ligue Magnus.

Salo: “We tightened up the game”
Ari Salo (assistant coach of the Rouen Dragons) : “It’s never easy to string together a match like this after Friday night in Angers (2-5). We started the game well, but we didn’t play well our first power-plays and, more generally, the end of the first third and the beginning of the second. The sequence of penalties broke the pace a bit and, at the same time, we had a little relaxation. So I asked the guys to keep working, run our systems and just play our game. They did and it paid off. Our third period was very good. We tightened the game and we were able to take advantage of the fatigue of the Cergy players to make the difference. (On the entry into play of Valentin Duquenne). He works every day to improve and it’s good to trust him when you can. He must take advantage, like today (yesterday), of every opportunity to play. ”
Jonathan Paredes (Cergy coach) : “We did the correct first thirty minutes. We were less good in the next thirty. We paid the bill. We took as many penalties in one match tonight as in the first three. However, against teams like Rouen, taking ten penalties is not forgiving. The addition is salty, but we have to learn from all that, that we understand if all these penalties are due to our lack of pace and / or the rise of Rouen. Tonight, I’m mixed, because taking 7-1 is not pleasant, but there were, despite everything, the first thirty-five minutes which were not too bad. ”
