The London choir will be in Manizales until Sunday with free concerts.
Celia Gardiner, founder of the Rosa Mystica choir in London, conversation with LA PATRIA Radio about his trip to Manizales and the concerts the choir will give in the city. He said this:
What is the reason for your trip to Manizales?
It’s a combination of things. I have been working with this group of singers in London since 2009, but I also have personal connections with Manizales.
I spend a lot of time of the year here and I understood that Manizales was going to be a great place to show this music that we sing mostly in London. It’s a very cultural city, it’s a city with great concert opportunities, andIt is a city with very beautiful churches, because the old music we sing was born in the Catholic Church. We not only sing in concerts, but we also sing mass in the traditional way.
What kind of old music do they sing?
Gregorian chant is the oldest music in Europe that we can play. Obviously there was music before, but we don’t know what the sound was like. But the Gregorians sing, some are probably from the 10th and 11th centuries and can be sung by a soloist, no support, no tools, no organ, nothing.
Y They are originally the prayers of the Catholic Church in the middle ages. They have a slightly different sound than classical music, though He is one of the forefathers of classical music. And it is something that gives a very nice feeling at a concert or in the context of mass or prayers in church.
What programs in Manizales to listen to?
Today (October 16) at 7:00 pm there is a concert in the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows in La Estrella.
On Sunday (October 20) we will sing mass at 12:00 noon in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
And at 5:00 in the afternoon we will be at the church of the Divino Niño Jesús in La Enea.
How relevant is early music and being able to listen to it live in Manizales?
Music speaks to people on all levels to anyone.
Just sit and listen to it to understand it. It is a very deep knowledge.
Obviously there are many styles of music in the world and you can listen to any style of music and be moved, But this ancient and intense music has a message for us that moves the emotions. and maybe it makes you have a deep knowledge that you didn’t get in another context.
