JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo touched on the background to the current war between Israel and Hamas.
According to him, the conflict was caused by the occupation of the Palestinian territories by Israel.
“The root of the conflict, namely the occupation of the Palestinian territories by Israel, must be resolved immediately according to UN parameters,” said Jokowi in a press statement via the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube, Tuesday (10/10/2023).

He also urged the armed conflict between Hamas and Israel to be stopped immediately.
According to Jokowi, war will only increase the burden of humanitarian disasters.
“Indonesia urges war and acts of violence to be stopped immediately to avoid increasing human casualties and destruction of property,” he said.
“Because conflict escalation could have a greater humanitarian impact,” said Jokowi.
On that occasion, Jokowi also asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Retno Marsudi and related ministries to take immediate action to protect Indonesian citizens (WNI) who are currently in the conflict area between Hamas and Israel.
“I ask the Minister of Foreign Affairs and related ministries to immediately take quick action to protect Indonesian citizens in conflict areas,” said the Head of State.
As previously reported, Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu declared open war against Hamas in Palestine following an attack on an Israeli residential area on Saturday (7/10/2023).
The number of deaths due to the armed conflict between Israel and Hamas since October 7 2023, also continues to increase.
The death toll from Hamas attacks on Israel rose to more than 1,487 people on Monday (9/10/2023).
Meanwhile, the number of injured victims is said to have reached 6,327 people.
Meanwhile, reported by AFP, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said the death toll in the Gaza Strip increased to 687 people on Monday.
Then, another 3,727 people were injured since Israel launched a wave of air strikes in response.
