The local association SPD NordWest has been pointing out for a long time one of the most important problems in Niederursel, especially in the center of the historic city: the increasingly frequent flooding of the Urselbach.
The SPD parliamentary group in Römer also wanted to know more about this topic to be able to better represent the citizens’ concerns in the city council. Stefan Ziegler, board member of the North West SPD local association and the volunteer fire department, has been dealing with this issue for a long time and explained the problem ably to the group- representation and several local residents.
When there is heavy rain, for example, the village lawn path turns again and again into a raging river and floods apartments, cellars and vehicles. The residents who witnessed extensive damage reported that there was no longer any insurance after the second flood anyway. They also said that the rain often comes so fast that it is rare to take protective measures.
The citizens also raised the traffic problems in the narrow streets of the old town of Niederursel. There has been a framework plan for the city center for nearly 20 years, but nothing has been implemented so far. It is now hoped that the recent changes to road traffic regulations will provide more scope for improvements even in zone 30.
The SPD city councilors came to a good conclusion from their visit to the area. They have achieved the goal of gaining a better understanding of the local problems and want to work accordingly to solve them.
