The Roman castle has nothing to do with Romans

Brewery, restaurant and now privately owned: The long history of the Roman castle in Kreuzlingen

Although the name suggests, the Roman castle in Kreuzlingen has nothing to do with the Romans. The castle on the Remisberg has an eventful history: It was once an inn, later a beer brewery and now houses office space.

“In 1942 my parents had a two-room apartment there at Burgstrasse 8,” says Annemarie Strasser. This makes her one of the few people from Kreuzlingen who has a direct connection to the Römerburg, the small castle in private ownership. “Everyone knows her, but very few have ever been to the building,” says her husband, the local historian Georg Strasser.
