The role of the seductive girl Babinčáková made Adamcová a star: She went to Canada for love, hell awaited her

Martina Adamcová was born on April 22, 1966 in Ostrava. Her parents were civil engineers, but Martina did not want to follow in their footsteps, she was attracted to acting from an early age. She regularly went to the cinema with her father, and the world of film enchanted her even then. Later, she attended an acting class to improve herself in this field. An interesting fact is that she met another now famous actress – Mahulena Bočanová – on the courses.

Although one would expect that her next steps would lead to a conservatory, this was not the case. Martina Adamcová graduated from the Štěpánská Academic Gymnasium and was accepted to study at the university after matriculation. She studied in Moscow, where the family moved due to work duties of Martina’s father. At the Moscow Academy of Arts, Martina Adamcová has already chosen her “matter of the heart”, art.

She became famous for the role of Cetařka Babinčáková

However, Martina Adamcová did not stay in Russia, she returned to her native country in 1988 and started working as an announcer. She made her film debut in 1989, when she appeared in the fairy tale About the Magic Pine Cone. She also became known thanks to the moderation of the Games Without Borders competition. However, her most famous role was and remains the character of the seductive girl Babinčáková in the film Tank Battalion from 1991. Although it was not the main role, Martina Adamcová was still remembered by many viewers thanks to the exposed scene. It is said that another actress was originally supposed to play the role of the girl, but she did not want to do the nude scene, so the role was given to the charming Martina Adamcová, who appealed to the film’s director Vít Olmer for this role, among other things, thanks to her exhibition breasts.

Martina Adamcová never regretted the nudity in the film, in an interview she said: “I’ve never had a problem using my body as a prop, I’m an actor. Also, as an independent woman, I know that my body belongs to me and I can do with it however I want. In Tank Battalion, I used it to entertain the audience. I am very proud of my participation in this famous comedy, because I entered the history of Czech cinema with it. I think it’s admirable that I managed to do this in such a small space. The Czech filmmakers didn’t give me a bigger role, and I still stand by the job even today. I adore Czech film.”

The film made Martina Adamcová a star, and other interesting offers came as well. In 1993, viewers could see her in the thriller Nudity for Sale, and two years later she played the co-owner of a haunted house in the film Playgirls. She also appeared in the comedy series Black Barons from 2004.

She went to Canada in search of love, but she experienced hell there

In 1993, Martina Adamcová made the fateful decision to move to Canada for love. She fell in love with an artist whom she met in a Czech pub and considered him to be her soul mate. She decided to follow him to Canada. There she managed to continue the acting career that she started in her native country. For example, she starred in the police series Sirens. They had a son, Frédéric, with her husband. From the outside, it might seem that Martina Adamcová is living her dream. But behind closed doors, hell was going on. As soon as her husband’s business started to fail, he dealt with it in the worst possible way. He fell into drugs and slot machines. In addition, he was diagnosed with a mental illness, bipolar affective disorder (formerly known as manic-depressive psychosis).

He took out his anger on Martina, whom he beat and robbed of money. Over time, Martina Adamcová found the courage to report him to the police, but the law enforcement officers did not believe her at first, only the bruises on the actress’ body convinced them. Martina Adamcová divorced her husband after some time. Over time, Martin withdrew the accusation, which she later regretted when she learned that he also beat other women he met after the breakup of their relationship. In the end, however, he ended up in prison for his actions. According to her words, the actress spent three more years recovering from the horrors she experienced.
