“We have managed to place in the right dimension 2 important and current concepts that open a glimpse into the future: innovation and integration”, declares Francesco Cattel, director of the Hospital Pharmacy Complex Structure, AOU Città della Salute e della Scienza of Turin, coordinator of the HTA Laboratory of SIFO, at the conclusion of the event Masterpharm 2024of which he was scientific coordinator. “We increasingly need training and professional ability to be able to manage exponential growth which not only concerns the pharmaceutical or device markets, but concerns the structuring and participation of all hospital pharmacists in the development and strengthening of new healthcare organizational models , divided between hospital and territory.” The course Integrated Models in Comparison from Italy to the World analyzed already existing and operating healthcare models, trying to “synthesize and share the experiences, values and professional perspectives of the hospital pharmacist”.
Various interventions took place during the 3 days: from the in-depth study on the Pharmacists-Pharmacologists dialogue, coordinated by the new president of the Italian Society of Pharmacology SIF, Armando Genazzani, to the various regional experiences of governance of medicines and centralized logistics, which saw, among others, those of Anna Garna (Estar Toscana) and Silvia Adami (Veneto Region); and again from innovations in the field of robotics, with Domenica Mamone, of the AOU Pisana, to solutions focusing on territoriality, with Anna Marra (Ferrara) and Alessandro Brega (ASL4 Liguria). Ample space was then given to the responsibilities of the hospital pharmacist in Oncology, with Stefania Sbaffi (IRCCS Meldola) and Elisabetta Rossin (ASST Sacco, Milan) and in chronic conditions, with the intervention of Simona Serao Creazzola (ASL Napoli1) and in the of shortages and unavailability, with Gabriele Bagaglini (ASL Latina), Andrea Zovi (Ministry of Health) and Piera Polidori (member of the EAHP board).
The “netless” dialogue saw the participation of Francesco Saverio Mennini (Ministry of Health), Americo Cicchetti (Ministry of Health) and the Piedmont Region Health Councilor, Federico Riboldi: “An extraordinary debate, because we managed to bring within the same round table that dialogue between the Ministry and the Regions which is sometimes complex to achieve”, states Cattel. “It was a useful and profitable moment, where some critical issues were analysed, which can become opportunities, starting with the very current topic of the new LEAs and the Nomenclatoron which everyone shared the importance of ensuring essential levels, responding to citizens, but also justifying the sustainability of growing spending in the field of innovation.”
“The role of the hospital pharmacist within the vision of the new Regional Healthcare is that of an all-round professional, perfectly integrated with the objectives of the future, which are of effectiveness and universality of care”, states Riboldi. “A role that, among other things, also affects the new drug logistics, which – if it is able to lower certain costs – will allow companies to enjoy greater budget for the purchase of medicines.”
“Azienda Zero has collaborated with the hospital pharmacist since the beginning of its activities”, states the general director, Adriano Leli. “Today there is a clear intention to expand these collaborations across different pathology networks and specific pharmaceutical categories, trying to pursue spending control and monitoring objectives, also focusing attention on appropriateness assessments in areas on which all the regional health system must work.”
