In the video interview he gave us, Dr. Tudor Ciprut emphasized the importance of ultrasound, tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and PET-CT investigations in detecting and monitoring ovarian cancer.
“Ovarian cancer can be detected in the early stages. This is when a recommended ultrasound is performed in various situations, the ultrasound doctor is good and the ultrasound is performing.
Ovarian cancer can be detected in the early stages and when it is screened. There are families in which ovarian and breast cancers are, unfortunately, a genetic misfortune. And in those families, women have to do this screening.
The screening is done primarily by ultrasound. And if there is a suspicion of ovarian cancer, CT or MRI is continued.
Because ovarian cancer does not show symptoms at first, this is why we usually do not find malignant ovarian tumors in the early stages.
When ovarian cancer becomes symptomatic, the disease is already quite advanced. Pain, bloating, intestinal transit disorders when a fluid spill occurs in the abdomen already means peritoneal metastases. This means an advanced disease.
Usually, the diagnosis of ovarian cancer is an imaging one. From ultrasound, we move on to the next step which is pelvic magnetic resonance.
If ovarian cancer is diagnosed, a staging should be performed. The staging is done imagistically. Then, depending on the stage, oncology treatment and surgery will follow. In the less advanced stages, the operation is first and then, the oncological treatment is done.
Staging is done either by PET-CT or by magnetic resonance and tomography. The restadialization in different stages is done depending on the stage and the treatment done ”said Dr. Tudor Ciprut.
