While the number of children per family decreases, parents invest and follow more carefully the educational path of their offspring. However, in particularly poor areas, families send their children to work to earn money, instead of going to school. This situation affects 152 million children who perform strenuous and dangerous tasks. Prohibiting child labor and promoting girls’ education are among the priorities of the SDGs. Access to school for all benefits the whole of society. One dollar invested in educating girls and increasing the age at which they marry generates five dollars in growth. In addition, data collected in 114 countries from 1985 to 2005 showed that each additional year of education is associated with a reduction in the Gini coefficient of 1.4 percentage points. This coefficient measures income inequalities, the closer it tends to zero, the less a country is considered to be unequal.
