Residents of Riga and guests of the capital are looking forward to one of the most special musical events of autumn – the premiere of the rock opera “Turaidas Roze“.
The main role, the maid Turaida Maija, will be played by the inimitable Marlene Kane. Vladimir Bogatov’s rock opera “Turaidas Roze”, which is currently hosted by “Amber Way Studio”, will premiere on November 1 in Arena Riga. This is the second project of the studio, the first one was the musical “Black & White”, which premiered in “Arena Riga” in March this year.
Marlēna Keine is an outstanding opera singer from Latvia whose talent is expressed in both opera and operetta genres. She has gained wide recognition by participating in several international vocal competitions and earning recognition as a versatile and attractive artist. Marlēna often plays leading roles in the Latvian National Opera and is known for her exceptional vocal and acting talents. Her career continues to develop, giving high-quality performances both in Latvia and abroad.
Renārs Austrums (Maija’s Fiance Viktors) is a soloist of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet (LNOB), who has clearly proven himself with his talent in the field of opera and vocal art. His strong voice and stage presence make him an outstanding artist both in the Latvian and international opera world. He has participated in several important projects, including the rock opera “Turaidas Roze”, where he plays Maia’s fiancé Viktor.
The show features renowned performers, including Alex Silver (The Narrator) (Alex is able to blend classical and contemporary music, offering unforgettable musical performances. (Lynette), along with orchestra conducted by Guntars Bernats and the trio “Melo-M”. The rock opera promises to be original, giving the audience the opportunity to enjoy beautiful music and powerful performances, as well as feel of medieval Sigulda thanks to the LED screens. The libretto in English is surreal, but relevant even today. Marlene Kane emphasizes that the story of Maya is about the power of love, which is stronger than death.
The creative team of the opera hopes for success abroad, enjoying the legend of Turaida Rozi. The story of Maya, which began after the battle of Turaida in 1601, has become a symbol of love and self-sacrifice. This legend has inspired many, including the composers Emīla Melngail and Zigmāras Liepina.
