Deputy Minister of Finance (Wamenkeu) Suahasil Nazar said that he was happy to be able to experience this congested Again. This is because it shows that the Indonesian economy has started to recover.
“When (the economy) recovers, we are very ‘happy’ to be able to experience traffic jams again. We hate traffic jams but on the one hand we are grateful for traffic jams. He added, when the COVID-19 pandemic started, the government was forced to impose restrictions on people’s movements. Because at that time there was no vaccine.
“The policy will have an economic impact, it will definitely have an economic impact on us,” he said.
Suahasil said that at that time all tourist places were empty, shopping places were no less empty. Therefore, he is happy to see traffic jams again because it means that the Indonesian economy is starting to recover.
However, according to him, in addition to carrying out economic recovery, economic growth is needed which can later maintain economic stability.
“And only with growth and stability (of the economy), we can move forward,” he explained.
During the event, Suahasil also mentioned several strategic objectives or strategic thrusts that will be carried out by Indonesia as Chair of Asean, namely recover-rebuilding, digital economy, and sustainability.
For information, the handover of ASEAN chairmanship from Cambodia to Indonesia was carried out at the 42nd Asean Summit in Phnom Penh in November last year. Indonesia officially becomes the chairman of Asean from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023.
