As Mr. Vafeadis told KYPE, “the project will be finished, there will be delays, but it will be finished”, saying that they as the Ministry of Transport want the Pafos – Polis Chrysochous road project to be completed by the contractor who took over today.
Mr. Vafeadis noted that “the best situation for us is that he completes the project. However, if the idea is not to be completed, we will turn to other contractors.”
The Minister of Transport noted that the Pafos – Polis Chrysochous road project is a source of concern for them. As he explained, a process is currently underway to find a compromise solution between the contractor and public works.
The contractor, he continued, has made some requests and public works has rejected these requests.
He also said that the Central Committee for Amendments and Claims, which this case is before, has appointed a committee in detail to investigate whether a compromise solution can be found between the two parties.
That said, he said, “we expect to clear it one of the next two weeks and then we’ll know what’s going to happen.”
He also indicated as the Ministry of Transport that they will proceed immediately after the decision of the KEAA to ask the contractors to submit a detailed work program to them, to ensure that the necessary facilities, manpower and tools are provided. to proceed with the project according to what is provided in the contract, he said.
“We say that this project is still very high on the Government’s priorities, it is a project that we want to see ready and delivered for use.”
If the contractor responsible for this project does not show due diligence and willingness to proceed with the project, the contract will impose some measures from the government and we will undertake to terminate the project with other contractors, he concluded. .

“We will gladly go ahead to help implement this project and that is why this coordination effort will be done,” he said, adding that “the study that has been done must be evaluated first, and if approved by Public Works we will proceed immediately in tenders”. Mr. Vafeadis believed that the breakwater project, which aims to protect the coast of Paphos, must go ahead, noting that the damage suffered by the coasts from erosion is very large and will help these projects very much.
It must be built as soon as possible to protect our coastal assets from erosion, he concluded.
