“Unlike spring, we now know that the highest risk of infection is directly related to human contact – being close and loud, singing together, sneezing or coughing, while there is a much lower risk of infection from surfaces such as shops or workplaces,” explained Rebellion.
At the same time, according to the expert, the current restrictions imposed by Latvia on Covid-19 with regard to foreign travel are strict enough.
The infectologist also emphasized that every effort should be made not to interfere with the operation of schools or companies, as this provides children with quality education and socialization, as well as the stability of the country’s economic development. “We must also try to continue to provide planned medical care as much as possible, which is extremely important in times of crisis,” Dumpis noted.
The most important question is how the existing recommendations on distance and hand washing are followed. “Anyone who meets other people should install the Stop Covid app,” the infectologist recommends.
It has already been reported that the Ministry of Health (MoD) is currently planning to maintain the existing restrictions. At the same time, the ministry emphasizes that they must be observed responsibly.
Consequently, the Ministry of Education calls on employers to return to telework as far as possible. Other precautions should also be considered in the workplace, such as encouraging employees not to unnecessarily gather in common areas and holding workshops remotely.
The Ministry of Health stated that together with epidemiologists, the situation is being carefully analyzed, and currently the spread of Covid-19 in Latvia is controlled. This means that it is known where people are infected, and a large proportion are infected abroad.
