The heavy rains on Thursday caused a trail of incidents in different parts of the region. The most complicated situation was experienced throughout the afternoon in Sada before the rising of the Maior river, which with the high tide was a few centimeters from overflowing in the heart of the town. A house collapsed in Sadadarriba. There have also been floods in Oleiros. Yesterday 40 liters per square meter were collected after more than 12 hours of continuous rain.
The City Council of Sada already organized a special device since mid-afternoon to prevent water, if necessary, from entering homes. Panels were distributed for installation on the doors. What’s more, Neighbors were alerted to remove their vehicles from the garages and around the river.
In addition, the Municipal Emergency Service mobilized a large motor pump to drain water towards the mouth. The mayor of Sada, Benito Portela, supervised this operation. The risk of flooding was aggravated by the situation of the river in the upper area of Bergondo, where there were completely flooded roads.
Late at night, a dilapidated house did not yield to the water and was partially collapsed. Five neighbors from an adjacent house had to be accommodated in a hotel of the town due to the risk that your home would also be affected.
The City Council of Sada is pending the bidding of the works to prevent situations like this from being repeated. The project is in the drafting phase. This work, which will expand the water pumping capacity to the mouth of the river, was committed five years ago when Sada suffered significant floods.
In Oleiros the floods also caused a significant increase in the Mera lagoon coinciding with high tide. The road from Mera to Lorbé was flooded under 10 centimeters of water.
