What makes the success of a rising star is its ability to get up fall after fall.
My two post-baccalaureate years plunged me into the beginning of an adventure dotted with ups, downs and passion. These thrills have defined who I am and where I am headed. Thank you to Grenier for this opportunity to give you a testimony of the beginning of your career:
In March 2020, I was the marketing coordinator of a pioneering start-up in the entertainment industry, flight attendant and frequent weekend traveler. My friends called me the jetset. In a partially sunny park, third wave coffee in hand, I tell my anecdotes of croissants in Paris, turbulent flights, the launch of our next entertainment project. Summer is coming: more projects in sight? You know the rest. A week later, the vacation airline becomes an emergency repatriation ally, entertainment plans are canceled. I finally received two layoff letters. We’re siled and my dreams are on hold, but we’re all together. This collective solidarity prevented me from complaining: I had a place to stay, a banana bread in the oven and a new passion for running. The star is not extinct, but is certainly not rising. Dreaming becomes an effort because reality takes up all the space.
A letter lands in my mailbox in the middle of the night: a notice of refusal to the master’s degree followed by an invitation to do a DESS in entrepreneurship at HEC Montreal. A mixture of emotions. Another dream to put on hold, but a new opportunity. Faced with the uncertainty, I decided to go for it. Once the offer was accepted, I virtually networked to create three business prototypes in one term as part of my studies: the passion was born! I never thought in my life to go into business with people I had never met.
Today, I am giving myself another chance for the master’s degree in September 2021 and I am participating in the international competition Social Business Creation. With the loss of my jobs, I accepted one mandate at a time to finally go on my own, without realizing it. With a formula “for entrepreneurs, by entrepreneur”, I offered my services in marketing strategy and business creation, to then be recruited as a communications manager. With a view to continuously learning, I carried out several voluntary mandates to allow enthusiasts with fewer resources to take off and become, themselves, rising stars.
Be proud to show who you are and to use each micro-life experience to forge the future, because we have so much to learn together.
Have a good start to your career!
