Almost two-thirds of Russians (64%) generally consider Chinese cars a worthy replacement for foreign cars that left Russia, and 59% agree with the statement that the quality of Chinese cars has become better. These are the results of a survey conducted by Otkritie Avto, the auto business unit of Otkritie Bank.
17% of respondents believe that even now the sales volumes of Chinese and Russian cars in our country are almost equal. Another 43% are sure that Chinese cars in 2023 will surpass the products of the Russian auto industry in terms of sales. And according to 24% of respondents, by the end of this year more Chinese cars will be sold than Russian ones if the domestic auto industry is not supported by the state.
Almost two-thirds (64%) generally consider Chinese cars a worthy replacement for foreign cars that left Russia. 19% of them believe that the build quality and reliability of Chinese car units are not inferior to cars from Europe, South Korea and Japan. And 45%, recognizing a quality alternative, would like to see Chinese brands offer more adequate prices.
58% of respondents are sure that Russians have already overcome prejudice towards Chinese cars. To a greater extent, male drivers agree with this thesis than autoladies (61% versus 56%). According to 42%, Russian motorists remain wary of Chinese brands.
59% agree with the statement that the quality of Chinese cars has improved. In turn, 11% do not agree that Chinese cars have become better. 30% of respondents found it difficult to answer.
“Today, Russians really increasingly perceive Chinese cars as a worthy option for purchase. We see this trend both in the overall growth in sales of Chinese brands in the Russian car market, and in the growth of their share in bank loans. So, for example, in July, in the structure of loans issued by Otkritie Avto for new cars, the share of Chinese brands was already 47% in terms of the number of transactions and 48% in terms of loans in monetary terms,” said Marina Dembitskaya, head of Otkritie Avto.
