Data collected by the multi-service company “Tele2” show that the cost of repairing smart devices has increased by 23% over the last year. On average, the cost of repairing one phone is 60% of the phone’s value, and as the company notes, currently every second smart device that customers buy from “Tele2” is insured. Both budget classes and premium class smart devices.
Repair costs have increased both because the smart devices themselves and their spare parts have become more expensive, and because of the costs of adult repair work.
“Smart device insurance is a good way to have extra security in case something happens to your smart device. This tends to happen quite often, as evidenced by our statistics – we receive several thousand insurance applications a year. The most common cases are when smart devices simply fall out of your hands or fall from a surface and get smashed. It is interesting that in the summer there are also relatively many cases when phones are forgotten on the roofs of cars and the phone is smashed when starting to drive,” says the head of insurance services of “Tele2” Zemgus Eglitis. “There is a common perception that replacing individual parts of the phone, such as the screen, in case of damage is relatively easy and inexpensive, but this is not the case at all. Together with the screen, depending on the manufacturer of the device, the device’s battery and phone case also need to be changed, which increases the cost of repairs.”
“Tele2” also reminds that it is important to repair smart devices in authorized services. If this is not done, several risks must be taken into account. First, the warranty of the smart device is void. Secondly, non-original spare parts may be used during the repair, which may affect the operation and quality of the device, thus reducing the life of the device after such repair.
