Recently – partly due to the popularity of e-cigarettes – the number of smokers in our country has been going in the wrong direction again. Who made the smoke-free generation addicted again? That is the starting point of the NPO Listen and AVROTROS podcast series ‘Slaafd Gemaak’.
More and more studies show that electronic smoking is much less healthy than we thought and yet the number of users, especially young ones, is increasing rapidly. Experts are sounding the alarm about this phenomenon.
Fons speaks with a 13-year-old vape addict, a 39-year-old user who will have lung damage for the rest of her life, a health insurer who does not know what vaping is, with concerned doctors and with outgoing State Secretary Maarten van Ooijen of Health, Welfare and Sport. Sport. He also meets Michael Landl, the chairman of the largest lobby group in the world, The World Vapers Alliance. He says that it is a small step from vaping to smoking. An epidemiologist from the Trimbos Institute explains exactly how vaping is made attractive to young people.
