The Rise of Trent Alexander-Arnold: From Shy Boy to World Class Player

These days, Trent Alexander-Arnold and the rest of the Liverpool players are getting ready to start the run-up to a new season at Anfield.

The Scouser has been an important part of Liverpool’s squad for several years, and it will be surprising if it doesn’t continue like this in the future.

Someone who saw potential early on in the right-back was then teammate Lucas Leiva. He remembers back to a time when Alexander-Arnold was shy and very thin.

A lot has happened since then, and now the Brazilian wants to see him in a more important role in the squad.

– Millie (James Milner) and Bobby (Roberto Firmino) have left, so now he has to step up and become one of the leaders within the team. Not only because of his qualities, but also because of his presence and everything he has done for the club in recent years, says the Brazilian in an interview with liverpoolfc.com.

2016: A young Trent Alexander-Arnold was captain of Liverpool’s U18 team seven years ago.

Lucas remembers well the times when he and the right-back played in the same team. The 36-year-old remembers well when a young Alexander-Arnold ran into first-team training.

– We saw early on that Trent was special, even as a 16-year-old. I remember him training with us for a whole year without playing a game. He was at the training center every day, both before and after the sessions, he says.

There is no doubt that the Scouser has put in many hours on the training bench in recent years, and despite his young age he has actually been involved in and won most of the games with the club.

– He was patient, and we knew he would get the chance. He has improved a lot since then and he is a world class player now. He has improved every season.

MANAGER: Lucas Leiva substituted as captain on several occasions on the eve of his Liverpool career.

A young leader in the ranks

During the spring season, Alexander-Arnold changed his role in Liverpool’s team, from a traditional offensive full-back to a more central role in midfield.

It is a position Lucas knows well from his time at Anfield, and under Jürgen Klopp.

– It looks like he is playing in a different position now, so it just shows how much he can help the team with his qualities. It is incredible to see how much he has grown, says the Brazilian.

The 24-year-old has already managed to play 273 games for Liverpool, and there will probably be far more in the years to come. Lucas will see Trent as a leader in the 2023/24 season, after five, six years as a regular player.

– Now a new season is approaching, where he can continue to grow and improve as a player, manager and person. I think it will be important, he concludes.
