The Rise of Self-Help and Leadership Books: Best-Selling Books in Colombia 2023

Since 2022, Colombia has had reliable and accurate information on the best-selling books in the market, thanks to the collection of information gathered by the data provider Nielsen BookScan at the different points of sale throughout the country. This service, which benefits all the actors in the book trade chain, came to the country with the support of the Colombian Book Chamber.

Recently, the Colombian Book Chamber and Nielsen BookScan published the list of the 25 best-selling books in Colombia in the first half of 2023. The results are very striking. As has been the case in recent years, the ‘nonfiction’ category continues to gain popularity over ‘fiction’ books.

Novels like Except my heart, everything is fine, by Héctor Abad Faciolince; the children’s book Yolo Aventuras 2: the mystery of the Amazon, Violeta, by the Chilean Isabel Allende; Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, by the English JK Rowling, and the book of fables Colombia, my grandfather and I, by Pilar Lozano, are some of the books that stood out in the fiction category.

However, the statistics revealed that what Colombians are most interested in reading are self-help and leadership books, since the five best-selling books in Colombia are within this category with copies such as Atomic Habits, by James Clear; How to make good things happen to you?, by Marian Rojas Estapé; The psychology of money, by Morgan Housel; The 5am Club, by Robin Sharma and Ruge, by Daniel Habif.

After this category, there are books like In the Shadow: The Memoirs of Prince Harry, located at number 7 on the list. As for literature, the first work is in 12th place, with Except my heart, everything is fine, by Héctor Abad Faciolince.
