It could be the interior of a plane flown by the famous doll or a hotel in Ibiza, but the truth is that the rise of this color has been linked to decorative trends in recent years, banishing its link with femininity and care from its initial perspective to
propel a current that relates it to joy, strength and the new female empowerment, as claimed by the film by Greta Gerwig. “Warm”, “refined”, “intelligent” and even “sexy” are some more of the definitions to which this color palette is linked in some of the most important interior studios in the world, whose figures confirm that it is a color that is increasingly in demand.
The word “rose” is believed to derive from the Dutch word “pinck”, meaning small, consequently adapted from the succinct description of a “light red colour” in the 17th century. Starting in the 19th century, this tone was used to represent romantic love in art and literature, giving way to an almost exclusive link with fashion, accessories and a universe that was then strictly feminine -despite the fact that in cultures such as Japan this color is associated with masculinity. Popularly linked with the happinesshospitality and even good fortune -in China, almost in the same way as its famous cookies-, what is clear is that pink is one of the most trending colors of the moment.
Although its initial use in interior design was confined almost exclusively to bedrooms and children’s rooms -to promote relaxation and calm- some walls and even furniture in pink can broaden the visual aspect of a room and accentuate its sophistication, as has been shown by design milestones such as the Beverly Hills hotel -originally built in 1902- or the Red Wall by Ricardo Bofill, inspired by an Arab Kashba and which not only differentiates it from other places of the area, but – together with the effect of the sun – provides a chemical luminosity to the entire complex throughout the year.
It is no coincidence that Barbie has her own Airbnb -or rather, that can the house be rented where part of the scenes of the film were shot. Still, you don’t have to fly all the way to California to enjoy a Barbie-esque experience; Here are some of the places where you can be happy and feel like a true star -pink- of celluloid.
