When the human obsession with death, tragedy and mystery turned into travel, it became the most promising tourism sector the world has ever seen. They range from the Nazi camp where the massacre took place to the house in Ilantur where human sacrifice took place in Kerala. Tourists who visit dark tourism destinations for various reasons such as curiosity, historical study, personal or family connection contribute a large amount to the tourism sector. Despite its controversial nature, dark tourism has grown in popularity in recent years. 82% of people surveyed by Travel Daily News International have visited at least one dark tourism destination in their lifetime. 91% of the new generation (Gen Z) like to go to such places.
