The Rise of Brajan Gruda: A Young Talent Making Waves in the Bundesliga

Brajan Gruda will probably never forget the 24th minute on October 6th for the rest of his life.

While the fans of Borussia Mönchengladbach were still celebrating their team’s opening goal, Mainz 05, in the person of Edimilson Fernandes, took a quick and short corner from the right side. The ball landed around 20 meters to Gruda’s half-right position.

And what was the great talent of the 05 team doing? “At that moment I didn’t know what to do with my emotions. I even shed a few tears of joy – it was indescribable,” he gave an insight into his emotional world. His coach Bo Svensson has already used him six times this season, and in Gladbach he was in the starting line-up for the third time.

Since then, things have only gone in one direction for him: uphill! In April of this year, the right winger was a guarantee of winning the U19 championship against Borussia Dortmund. In total, he contributed nine goals and four assists on the way to the trophy.

Mainz manager Christian Heidel said exclusively on SPORT1: “His talent, his quality and especially his potential were already evident during his time here as a youth player. In our U19’s last championship season he took another big step forward. “The development this year is therefore not surprising.”

Heidel has already seen many talents mature at Rheinhessen. The 05ers have experience in dealing with young players. Heidel, in collaboration with coach Svensson and sports director Martin Schmidt, knows how such jewels are cut.
