This caused temporary surprise: Would the 48-year-old US star actor and director, whose Leonard Bernstein biopic “Maestro” premiered in the festival’s competition, actually walk the red carpet? Become a scab to bathe in flashbulbs? No: He just wanted to subject his latest screen work to a final technical test before its premiere on Saturday evening.
