The Rise and Fall of Valery Matveev: A Journey through Fame and Obscurity

The years have not been kind to the actor.

Valery Matveev became famous thanks to the painting “The Adventures of Prince Florizel”. He played a small but striking role as cowboy Frank Scrimgeour.

The talent of the actor was multifaceted, which allowed him to transform into any hero. Matveev was especially in demand on the stage. In the cinema, he was also called regularly, but the audience eventually stopped recognizing him.

The peak of the actor’s popularity came in the 80s, when he starred in the films “Charlotte’s Necklace”, “Useless”, “Marry the Captain” and other popular films. After the collapse of the USSR, Valery Evgenievich was out of work, like many other artists.

Only in the 00s Matveev began to slowly return to the cinema. He was invited to the series, but the actor got minor roles. So, it can be seen in the tape “Streets of Broken Lanterns”. Nobody recognized the artist then: he grew old, haggard and generally looked deplorable. Matveev died at the age of 57 after a serious illness.
