The Rise and Fall of Sergei Yuran: From Dynamo Kiev to Millwall – A Story of Missed Opportunities and Controversy

In the early 90s, on the national team of the USSR Sergei Yuran he grew up in Dynamo Kiev and went to Europe, where he had an amazing career in Benfica and Porto – twice becoming the champion of Portugal, and also taking the Cup of the country.

After the fall of the country, Yuran began to be called to the Russian national team, with which he went to the 1994 World Cup in the USA. But there, the head coach of our team, Pavel Sadyrin, released Sergei only in the match against Brazil.

After being eliminated from the tournament at the group stage, Yuran ran into the head coach of the Russian national team. It turns out that before the World Cup, London Arsenal talked to the former striker of the USSR national team and offered Sergei a four-year contract with a salary of 800 thousand pounds a year.

Yuran started to negotiate and asked for a million. And then he left for the World Cup in the USA in the hope that Arsenal would return with another transfer offer after the tournament. However, this never happened.

A year later, in 1995, Juran left Portugal and moved to Spartak. True, Sergei did not stay in Moscow – he had a disagreement with the management of the club. And in 1996, an offer from England appeared from Millwall, where he moved for a girl, as it turned out.
