The Rise and Fall of Russian Singer Sergei Lazarev: From Public Favorite to Disgrace

A former favorite of the Russian public, singer Sergei Lazarev fell into disgrace after he openly condemned the Kremlin’s decision to attack Ukraine.

At the beginning of Putin’s so-called “SVO”, Russian singer Sergei Lazarev thought too well of his compatriots, calculating that the majority of sensible people would not support the war. Because of this, he was not afraid to openly condemn the actions of the Russian authorities and was criticized.

After his emotional pacifist statement, “active” residents of Saratov demanded that local officials cancel the singer’s performances and even took the time to draw up a petition. As a result, Lazarev’s concert was indeed postponed, stating that the show would take place on another day due to a “violation of the logistics chain for the delivery of decorations.”

According to the media, after this Lazarev, raising his children alone, faced serious problems with the guardianship authorities. His haters decided to take revenge for the singer’s call to politicians to “stop” and demanded that the children be taken away from the singer. Lazarev himself complained about bullying and numerous threats directed at him. Realizing that he could not cope with the barrage of hatred, the artist deleted his Instagram account.

On April 14, Lazarev decided to put an end to the hate and made a new statement in which he declared himself a patriot. However, many Internet users did not believe the sincerity of his words and accused him of trying to “change his shoes” to save his career. They probably turned out to be right, since already in April 2022 Lazarev began giving concerts in Russia and again became a favorite of the public.

The scandal seemed to have been hushed up, but the new law in the Russian Federation on equating the LGBT movement with extremism again threatens the performer’s peace of mind. The fact is that Lazarev’s sexual orientation is no secret to anyone in Russia. Plus, the Z-patriots have not forgotten his pacifist views, and therefore everyone can remember him at any moment.

The last few days have been extremely troubling for 40-year-old Sergei Lazarev. Yesterday it became known that after recognizing the LGBT movement as extremist, the court fined the Quince TV channel for showing a video for the song “So Beautiful.” LGBT propaganda was found in the music video. Sergei Lazarev himself has not yet spoken out about what happened, but there is no doubt that he takes what is happening to heart. Moreover, the legislative innovations of the main ne*rophile of Russia, Putin, confronted Lazarev with a difficult choice regarding his life in Russia

According to rumors, the singer is seriously thinking about leaving Rotsia with his children and settling in a country where there is a tolerant attitude towards LGBT people. While these speculations have not been officially confirmed, however, most likely, a person planning to escape from a closed country will not announce his plans to escape from the regime.

It was previously reported that the Kremlin may to arrest Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Volodin and famous singers Kirkorov and Baskov, known for their non-traditional sexual orientation.
