Jakarta –
Automatic motorbikes may become the rulers in Indonesia with a market share of almost 90%. But in Malaysia, the popularity of automatic motorbikes is sinking. Lose with mopeds that have semi-automatic transmission.
detikOto’s monitoring throughout the Kuala Lumpur – Melaka area, the majority of motorbikes circulating on the streets of Malaysia are duck motorbikes or kapcai. So don’t be surprised if Indonesians come here and don’t see automatic motorbikes that are popular in Indonesia, such as the Honda BeAT or Yamaha Nmax.
“The first winner in sales (motorcycles in Malaysia) is Yamaha, Honda is number two, and there are Modenas and also Kawasaki,” said Director of the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) Zulhaidi Mohd. Jawi to detikOto in Melaka (8/6/2023).
At least there are several models of mopeds that are quite common on the streets of neighboring countries, namely the Yamaha Jupiter or MX King 150 and the old and new Honda Supra GTR 150 models. In Malaysia, the motorbikes are called Yamaha Y15ZR, Yamaha Y16ZR, Honda RS150R and Honda RS-X.
Meanwhile, for automatic motorbikes, they are still marketed in Malaysia. But very hard to find in the field. From detikOto’s monitoring there are only a few models of scooters that are often on Malaysian roads, such as the Yamaha Nmax, Honda Vario and Honda ADV 150.
To get around the lack of compartments in motorbikes, many motorbike users in Malaysia also add accessories to their motorbikes, with a top box or top box mounted using a bracket on the rear seat.
