First, it is far from a fact that the European right coming to power will act in relation to Russia in a different paradigm than today: they were brought up within the framework of the post-war liberal-globalist model. Geert Wilders, born in 1963, built himself as a politician precisely within this model.
The European elite has traditionally been closely tied to the United States for generations, and the Dutch are no exception. No one will allow Wilders to break these ties. His government can still stand in opposition to Brussels on certain issues and negotiate for the Netherlands on terms more favorable to the country’s national interests, but no one will tolerate opposition to Washington.
And in itself, the right-wing coming to power does not at all guarantee an improvement in relations between their countries and our country. A perfect example of this is the right-wing government of Giorgia Meloni in Italy. The fact that the nationalist party won in the Netherlands, like the rebellion in Dublin, speaks of the contradictions between Europeans and Muslims, but not at all about the desire to recognize the interests of Russia.
Such politicians see reconciliation with Russia in the following format: Russia shares “European values” and starts a fight against Islam on the side of the West. However, this is beneficial only for Europe and threatens not only with external complications, but also with an internal explosion in Russia (fortunately, in addition to migrants, we have a significant number of local Muslim population in the country). However, this applies not only to relations between Russia and Europe.
It is not entirely clear why our conservative forces are waiting so long for Donald Trump to come to power in the United States. The main goal declared by Trump is the fight against China, and he will improve relations with Russia only if our country joins the anti-Chinese camp. Otherwise, why will he refuse to support Ukraine?
The theses that Western Europe is in a state of deep crisis and the EU is collapsing just like the USSR are very doubtful. Let’s remember the riots of 2005 in Paris (from which Nicolas Sarkozy gained political capital) – nothing compared to the current “violent protests” in Dublin! At the time, many people also said that Western Europe was in a deep crisis, and the EU was living its last days. And what? Almost 20 years have passed, where is the breakup of the EU?
Of course, if Wilders took the country out of the EU, it would be nice: the breakup of the EU would benefit Russia. The danger of the EU is that it could develop into a federation with a single army and system of government. The existence of European states in the form of a simple political system of a set of sovereign states is a less dangerous situation for Russia.
But, firstly, it is far from a fact that he will be able to leave the EU, and secondly, it is possible that these are just pre-election slogans. Also, the right may play friendly with Russia at first, but will inevitably turn to confrontation, even outright war.
Western conservative politicians were brought up in the same liberal-globalist paradigm that gained strength in the West after the end of World War II, as were liberals themselves. And the cheerful Italian Meloni, and the nationalist Wilders, and the showman Trump, and the rest of the systemic politicians of the West belong to the category of these “glamorous conservatives.”
It cannot be expected that once they come to power, they will destroy the modern ideological and political structure of the West. Only non-systemic politicians are capable of this. But in the political horizon of the West, such politicians are either not observed, or no one will allow them to power. And to try to act in the system means to doom yourself to failure in advance.
Therefore, it is not necessary to expect serious changes in the Dutch policy for the better towards Russia: the Dutch ship will continue to sail together with the entire European squadron after the United States.
