The right dose of vitamin C for children

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Although it is needed in small amounts, vitamin C intake plays an important role for health, including for children.

Pediatrician dr. Reza Pahlavi, Sp.A. from Klikdokter explains what the ideal dose of vitamin C is for children and adolescents.

“Ideally, the daily requirement of vitamin C for children is 25-50 mg per day and 65-90 mg per day for adolescents,” said Reza, quoted from the official broadcast on Monday.

Vitamin C plays an important role in keeping children’s immunity strong. If the child is already sick, vitamin C can also help their recovery process to be faster because it helps reduce infections caused by bacteria and viruses.

Intake of vitamin C needs to be consumed regularly in the recommended dose, can be from vegetables and fruits high in vitamin C or with supplements.

Vitamin C is also recommended to be consumed every day depending on the needs and condition of the child’s body because it functions as an antioxidant, helps protect body cells from free radicals, while increasing the body’s immunity.

Macronutrients such as carbohydrates, protein, and fat certainly need to be present in every daily consumption. However, without meaning to ignore other nutrients, micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals are also important and are found in fruits, vegetables, and milk, said Reza.

“In addition to vegetables and fruit, it is recommended to give milk to children every day because a glass of milk contains a variety of good nutrients, such as protein, as well as various vitamins and minerals,” said Reza.

Milkuat presents an alternative drink that is claimed to maintain a child’s immunity through the Milk Bottle with Vitamin C content of 90 mg per bottle. Milkuat’s Senior Brand Manager, Wibowo Rubitomo, said one bottle per day is enough to meet a child’s daily vitamin C needs according to the Nutritional Adequacy Ratio.
